For the Los Faunos project, the Lavanderia a Vapore is experimenting with a transnational working model by inviting the Catalan choreographer and artist Quim Bigas Bassart to work with Nest, the network of Turin production companies, with the involvement of teachers from local dance schools: in a dynamic that combines expansion of the artistic imaginary and aesthetics of reference and territorial rootedness, it was decided to entrust an international artist with the proposal of an inspirational vision starting from the figure of the Faun and the declination of the same in the repertoire, accompanied by creative tasks and choreographic scores that can activate in dance schools, teachers and participants, a compositional and expressive capacity that goes beyond the disciplinary teachings oriented towards perfect interpretation.
The appointment is part of Fuoco Fauno, a special project realised in a network by Gender Bender, Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo / Lavanderia a Vapore, Teatro Stabile dell’Umbria that explores and re-enacts the figure of the FAUNO in dance, starting from its first appearance in 1912 with Vaclav Nižinskij’s Après-midi d’un faune. Today, the Faun is still an inexhaustible reservoir of imagery for questioning our present: from questions of identity and gender to the relationship between human and animal, from the relationship with nature and the environment – which we are urgently called upon to renegotiate – to the possible exchange between classical repertoire and experimentation with new artistic languages.
On Sunday 13 October at 4 p.m. Los Faunos will be presented at the Giardini Reali in Turin as part of the opening event of Torino Design City, a project of the City of Turin with the contribution of the Ministry of Tourism, as part of the projects ‘Residenze Sabaude. Un territorio da RE’ and ’Torino. Dire Fare Vedere Design. A UNESCO Creative City’ funded by the Ministry of Tourism.
