How to navigate the unknown and transformation through art practices? How to learn from water the possibility of being lulled into new mixtures? How to get in touch with a submerged world?

For its third edition, Research Camping transforms the spaces of the nave of Lavanderia a Vapore, from the foyer to the theater, into hybrid environments between fiction and reality, which become devices for the exchange and dissemination of artistic research processes. In a world in transition that seeks new reading tools and answers, artistic research can offer fertile ground for imagining new, possible or forgotten ways of making the world.

The bay is the dimension evoked by this third edition centered on the fluidity of bodies, made of flesh and water, increasingly viscous and elusive, bodies that inhabit a landscape in which they coexist between earth and liquidity, in a time in which certainty and illusion are confused.
During Research Camping, the research, from an intimate space behind closed doors, becomes an imaginative plaza for new politics, a middle ground that welcomes creations still in the making, and offers asylum to alternative thoughts and imaginaries to the muscular rhetoric and harried time of efficiency and production.

In today’s precarious and disenchanted world, in which hyperconnection and a sense of loneliness coexist without ever balancing each other, what does it mean to feel present?

‘thanks to the uprisings this world is a bit like me’.

Through the device of the work café, the workshop will give space for experimentation and the use of speculative imagination as a tool for collective political struggle.

Starting with an initial plenary in which participants name local problems within global power structures (e.g. the closure of an anti-violence centre, the opening of an Amazon hub), and after a smattering of political movement theory (political opportunities, mobilisation structures and framing), we will divide into tables to imagine the construction of a campaign, via social and mainstream press, confronting each other on the creation of a grammar that can be shared and sharable. We will discuss possible allies and accomplices, friends and enemies, with the desire to transform our personal desires for a different, better world into collective intentions.

Diletta Bellotti is a Roman researcher and activist specialising in human rights and migration. Since 2019, she has launched the ‘Blood Red Tomatoes’ campaign to inform, raise awareness and mobilise against labour exploitation in agriculture. She is part of the rebel writing collective ‘Fango’ and edits the column ‘Resistenti’ in L’Espresso. In 2024 he published ‘Blood Red Tomatoes’ with nottetempo.
The workshop is free and open to all, for a maximum of 30 people. No experience is necessary, aptitude for prophecy and polemics are welcome.

B. Bordoni is a visual artist and performer. His university studies (Accademia di Brera, Iuav di Venezia) are complemented by a heterogeneous training on movement and somatic practices and a political self-education that draws on transfeminist ethics. He is co-founder of the call monica collective (Santarcangelo festival 2021, Museo Guggheneim in Venice 2022, Istituto Svizzero 2022). In 2023 he was the winner, together with sound artist Lemmo Marano, of Cross Project, and an artist selected for the Nuovo Grand Tour (Creatività Contemporanea, IICP).
He currently lives in Turin, where he works on the relationship between art, pedagogy and ecology, exporting workshop formats in different contexts, from independent spaces to public schools. Mind-wanderers is her first curatorial project.

For the Los Faunos project, the Lavanderia a Vapore is experimenting with a transnational working model by inviting the Catalan choreographer and artist Quim Bigas Bassart to work with Nest, the network of Turin production companies, with the involvement of teachers from local dance schools: in a dynamic that combines expansion of the artistic imaginary and aesthetics of reference and territorial rootedness, it was decided to entrust an international artist with the proposal of an inspirational vision starting from the figure of the Faun and the declination of the same in the repertoire, accompanied by creative tasks and choreographic scores that can activate in dance schools, teachers and participants, a compositional and expressive capacity that goes beyond the disciplinary teachings oriented towards perfect interpretation.

The appointment is part of Fuoco Fauno, a special project realised in a network by Gender Bender, Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo / Lavanderia a Vapore, Teatro Stabile dell’Umbria that explores and re-enacts the figure of the FAUNO in dance, starting from its first appearance in 1912 with Vaclav Nižinskij’s Après-midi d’un faune. Today, the Faun is still an inexhaustible reservoir of imagery for questioning our present: from questions of identity and gender to the relationship between human and animal, from the relationship with nature and the environment – which we are urgently called upon to renegotiate – to the possible exchange between classical repertoire and experimentation with new artistic languages.

On Sunday 13 October at 4 p.m. Los Faunos will be presented at the Giardini Reali in Turin as part of the opening event of Torino Design City, a project of the City of Turin with the contribution of the Ministry of Tourism, as part of the projects ‘Residenze Sabaude. Un territorio da RE’ and ’Torino. Dire Fare Vedere Design. A UNESCO Creative City’ funded by the Ministry of Tourism.

“La Fest@” intends to accompany the participants in the collective ritual practice of enjoyment understood as a continuous dialogue between inside/outside, for a principle of integration of me/other, reality/imagination, presence/evasion. How do I have fun not by distracting myself from reality but by reconstructing reality? How do the personal emotional and imaginative process and the concreteness of bodies in a collectively occupied space merge in Ritual?

Similar to a musical choir, a poetic choir is a means of unlocking the song that is in the word; a set of voices that tune in to bring to other ears, minds and hearts, the extraordinary music of the meaning-bearing word: poetry. Unlike a canonical choir, however, the poetry choir is a speaking choir. In this workshop, words, voice, gestures and rhythm will be given to a collective poetic text that will becomè shared and public action that evening.

Seeing someone deviating from the norm suggests a possible hijacking in those who follow the norm. This must not happen, otherwise a social system based on the exploitation of bodies cannot be maintained. For this reason, it can thus be asserted that in modern societies we no longer need a controlling system, but it is we, ourselves, who self-regulate our own and other bodies. But just as bodies are mutable and intersectional, so are spaces. According to the words of Sandra Cane, space is neutral, it is the presence of ‘normed’ bodies that makes a specific space a place of power.

Can the public bathroom – both the place of historical queer sociability and at the same time of binary politics enforcement – serve as an excuse to interrogate the power dynamics that permit or prevent us to take a position with respect to unwritten rules? Why do some bodies feel they are in the right place compared to others and therefore entitled to tell others what to do? Can we intercept these dynamics and get together to create a little short circuit?

Opening a small space-time gap celebrates slowing down as a form of resistance against the rhythms of a system of production and consumption that wants more and more and ever faster.
Slowing down is a physical and mental act and at the same time a political action of caring. In slowing down, clearings open up in which one is allowed to become enchanted in the observation of details. Waiting for nothing allows experimentation with effort subtraction: what is the minimum amount of energy I can use to make a movement?
